Carburetor is the device which is used for blending air and fuel for the internal combustion engine. Invented by the Karl Benz before 1885, carburetor was patented in the year 1886. The word 'carburetor', is derived from the french word 'carbure', which means 'carbide'. Thus it means 'to combine with carbon.'In the North America and the United Kingdom, it is colloquially called the carb or carby. The working of carburetor is depend on the Bernoulli's principle, which means that the more faster the air movement, the lower would be its static pressure and the higher its dynamic pressure. When it is used in aircrafts with piston engines, special designs and features are required for preventing fuel starvation during inverted flight. While most of the carburetors come with only one venturi, there are many such carburetors which have more than one venturi or 'barrel'. 2 barrel and 4 barrel configurations are used for accommodating the higher air flow rate with the large displacement of engine.
